Frequently Asked Questions About Stair Ramps

Wheelchair ramps can be be made from various materials, but you will find most ramps at Reliable Ramps will be made of high quality Rubber, Aluminum or Fiberglass. These provide the least maintenance, most aesthetically pleasing and, overall, best options for you.

The recommended slope for wheelchair ramps for stairs is typically 1:12 (one inch of rise for every 12 inches of horizontal run).  For smaller requirements at residences that only have a few steps can go a little steeper depending on the situation, but we don't typically recommend any ramps be steeper than a 2:12 slope (one inch of rise for every 6 inches of horizontal run).

Commercial properties installing a ramp will need to follow ADA Standards. Residential ramps will not require the following of these standards, but the ADA provides a comprehensive guideline for wheelchair ramps and accessibility features, so it's in the customer's best interest to follow those guidelines when considering their stair ramps.

The choice of wheelchair ramp depends on factors like the location, intended use, available space, and individual requirements.  Depending on the amount and height of the stairs, consider options like modular ramps, threshold ramps or custom-built ramps based on your specific needs.
